Summertime!

Working at Swasey Central School in Brentwood is a great experience.  I enjoy each and every student and getting to know them.  We are looking forward to next school year.  I want to thank the parents and families for supporting our work here at SCS.  I want to thank the staff for their hard work and care when working with all of our children.

One of my 4th grade students took this picture of me...I'm wearing my Stormtrooper/Double Neck Flying V Gibson Electric guitar T-shirt...A student pleaser!

The last few days of school were fun.  We had our Grade 5 celebration and our school wide cookout and picnic...and this year..we started a tradition of Grade 5 students taking one last walk through the halls as all the staff and students clap for them...."A Clap Out"!

Our beautiful courtyard.  Thank you Sheila Lane, staff, students and families for keeping it so well maintained.

Have a great summer vacation!

It's June!

Hello everyone!

The past few weeks have been busy and we are just one week away from the last day of school for this year.

I had a fantastic day playing my guitar on the Oregon Trail with my fourth graders.  I was the Trail Music station.

Students had a blast learning about the pioneer days.  They saw these two beauties pulling a cart!

A big thank you goes out to our PFG for putting on the very popular End of the Year Celebration.  Students played musical chairs, bounced on the bouncy slide, and enjoyed sno-cones and watermelon.  Thank you families for taking the time out of your busy schedule to come and have fun.

The SCS staff was treated to an amazing luncheon.  Families sent in all sorts of food for the entire staff and we enjoyed a great lunch.

The 4th and 5th grade chorus  and our strings group performed last night, June 9.  They were fantastic.

Next week is our Grade 5 celebration.  We will bid our fifth graders farewell with a great ceremony.

Thank you reader, thank you parents, staff and students.  Almost time for summer vacation...stay in touch...come by the office and visit...we'll be here!

April happenings!

Students and staff at Swasey enjoyed the week-long themed days leading up to our vacation.  We dressed as twins, wore crazy hair and hats, put on our sports themed jerseys, wore our SCS yellow and blue, and on Friday we signed each other's white t-shirts with Sharpies!

We also enjoyed the Jump for Heart activities on the playground...Thanks to all that participated and made it so enjoyable.

April has been Poetry month!  Students carried a poem in their pocket on Thursday and each grade level is learning a poem for our Shindig!

In May, students will once again have an opportunity to sign up for Enrichment Activities!  Information was sent home in the monthly Family Newsletter!

Shades are being installed in the SCS gym!  We're just doing one corner at a time....but this will be in place for the annual Grade 5 Celebration evening scheduled for Monday, June 16th.  No more being blinded by the bright afternoon sun from the back windows!

I enjoyed visiting our 5th graders at Sargent Camp at the beginning of the month.  I took this photo right before I braved the rickety ladder, leading to the Stairway to Heaven, so I could zip-line down!  No worries,...all students...and principals....were safely harnessed and trained prior to heading onto the Rope Course!

April was also the basketball game!  SAU 16 Superstars vs Harlem Wizards!

Until next time....

Swasey Swinging Stars!

Each year, students at Swasey are invited to participate in Jump Rope Club.  Students of all ages come together to work on their jump rope skills and learn new routines set to music.  The big Jump Rope Show that occurs each year at the beginning of April is fun for all and well attended by families.  Congratulation to Mrs. Lane and her team of SCS staff that put this together for our students.  We enjoyed the school presentation that was performed on Friday, April 4th.

PFG Hockey Event and More....

What a great community Brentwood is!  I'm glad to work with all of the parents during our monthly PFG meetings.   I want to thank them for the support they provide our school.  A big thank you for helping families out that need support for the trip to Sargent Center and for funding the project to put shades in the gym.  No more squinting on stage each year for the Grade 5 ceremony!

On March 8th, the PFG held a fun hockey day with the Monarchs!  Families enjoyed a great hockey game and then the indoor fireworks to honor the servicemen and women from NH!  Thank you to the Bonner Family for the great photos!

Welcome Back

Students and staff are back in school after the February break.  We are ready for Spring!  A big thank you to Empower Martial Arts.  Sensai Mace is spending a week with us training students in the martial arts and the philosophies of discipline.

We are a martial arts school that teaches much more than just kicking and punching. Patience, kindness, anger management, goal setting, respect, and self awareness are a few of the character development skills that we practice within our curriculum.
